How To Write A Web3 CV

7 Step Guide to Writing A Winning Web3 CV.

When writing a CV you’ll want to think of it as a marketing piece for your services. It should be clear and concise, highlight your best qualities and demonstrate how you’ll be useful to the company that you’re applying for.

Your individuality and personal story are key factors to have you stand out from thousands of CVs that recruiters receive every month, this is especially true in crypto.

You may have an array of experience in Blockchain, DLT technology, and the relevant aspects which orbit web3, but the order of displaying your credentials and career outlook is essential.

Grasping your intention is very important from a company’s point of view as they will be investing their time in money into you and will look for those who align with their culture.

The pathways to applying for a crypto job are quite unconventional and you’ll need some guidance in applying for a position that you’ll love.

1

Add The Most Important Information Into Your CV's Header

You would be surprised how many people fail to add adequate contact information into a visible area of their CV.

Amongst other important information (Such as your full name), your CV’s header should be the place where you have as many means of contact as possible. You should assume that the recruiter may not have access to certain contact platforms, so add as many as possible.

Here’s what you should include:

  • Your full name.
  • Your local contact number with an international calling code encase it’s a remote position.
  • A professional email address, although the crypto industry is forgiving in this regard, at least try to have an email address that’s dedicated for professional contact. (bad_boy_cryptotrader69@gmail.com may not cut it).
  • Add a conference call contact on a popular app such as Zoom, Skype or WhatsApp.
  • Add commonly used social media accounts such as:
    Twitter, Telegram, Discord, and LinkedIn.
  • Portfolio, Website, or LinkTree.

Do note, that employers check out your social media when trying to assess your character even if you haven’t listed a certain social media on your CV, it’s likely they’ll search for it at some point.

So if you believe that you have some inappropriate content or things you prefer to not be judged on, you can put your social media on private.

2

Write A Personal Summary

Write a personal summary of your professional life that highlights your personality.

Coming across as honest and human will help you and you can achieve this by telling a short story about your life and the direction in life that you aspire to.

For example, you can tell the story of how you got into the crypto market and your beliefs in decentralization and how you want to contribute to this market. Whatever inspires you will also inspire the person reading your personal summary.

3

Education, Courses and Qualifications.

Contrary to mainstream belief, education in most of the tech industry isn’t the most important aspect to your job acquisition game, and this fact is even more true in the crypto industry.

To demonstrate this, a ‘Social Media Manager’ is a common job position in most major companies with teams built and managed the manager.

However just 10 to 15 years ago such a position didn’t exist, as social media was still new.
The ones who foraged into the brave new world of social media as a career in the early 2005 and beyond didn’t have any ‘qualifications’ to market products and services to audiences but in 2021 we have university degrees for Social Media focused careers.

Despite not being a requirement to work in crypto, if you still want to work in a traditional company that’s integrating crypto their services, then they’ll be looking for some type of accolade from a recognised institution.

Here are some of those institutions and crypto and blockchain-related courses:

4

Essential And Work Experience

Your work experience is your time to shine because work experience is most important when it comes to the crypto industry.

To maximize your chance of impressing the recruiter, you should write your work history in a quantitative manner instead of a qualitative one.

This means to means to write your work experience with tangible results embedded. You should do this because businesses operate in metrics and tangible results instead of statement results such as “I achieved xyz”.

Here are two examples of work experience entries on a CV, one being the less effective qualitatively written and a more effective quantitatively written:`

❌  Qualitative:

“Lead the founding team’s marketing campaigns at ‘Panda Finance DeFi’.”

✅  Quantitative:
“Acquired $1,000,000 total value locked with 3 months campaign.”

For example, if you created a poster for an event with a graphic designer and got 1228 registrants, you can write as follows.

Make sure to use action-oriented words such as ‘”Developed”, “Saved”, “Drove”, “Managed”. Verbs will allow you to show your results from a storytelling point of view and encourage you to follow up with a numerical quantitative result.

If you’re involved in any DAOs or movements within the crypto industry, ensure that you list them here too, participating in DAO governance and writing proposals is an actual contribution to the industry and will be widely used through most industries in the future as a replacement to the shareholder model.

5

List Relative Skills

Add as many skills as possible as it pertains to the company that you’re applying for, such as:

  • Photoshop
  • Twitter Digital Marketing
  • Web Design
  • Legal Contracts (U.S. jurisdiction)
  • Copywriting

You’ll stand out far more than most applicants if you list your abilities to use crypto tools, these could be:

  • Uniswap V3 Liquidity Pool Staking
  • Inept with cross-chain bridges: Ethereum to Avalanche/Binance Smart Chain/Polygon.
  • Inept with Self-Custodial Hot and Cold Wallets: Ledger, Metamask, Daedelus etc.
  • Minting NFTs from Smart-Contract.
  • Advanced Tokenomic Models.

6

Additional Information

You can be creative with this information, this section will create the human connection between yourself and the person reading your CV.

Include hobbies, achievements, special skills e.g. hosting a Bitcoin node etc.

Perhaps you’re part of the first generation of Crypto Punks owners which allows you to access the private Discord group.

There could be unexpected ways in which you’re able to contribute to the company that you’re applying to.
